Volunteering can bring benefits for all concerned. The best placements enable the volunteer to have a rewarding experience whilst also bringing useful support to the project and the people it serves. By contrast, inappropriate volunteering can undermine local people’s confidence, impose the volunteer’s agenda, increase the dependency on outside help, unwittingly support and perpetuate questionable projects and practices, and create more problems than it solves. Volunteering in Cambodia is serious stuff. It can certainly be enjoyable and great fun but it’s also important to remember it is work without pay, (and we all take our normal paid jobs seriously enough!) Your work could well be with people who have very challenging lives. You’re likely to be exhausted at the end of each day and emotionally drained at the end of it all. It is particularly beneficial where volunteers can develop the capacity of the local staff in a project. An example would be where a professional teacher volunteers to work with the local teaching staff in a school or centre, rather than teaching the pupils directly. In this way the volunteer is less disruptive to the pupils and can pass on their skills and knowledge, enabling the local teachers to do their jobs better in the future. if you are going to stay a several days in Siem Reap then your English teaching may very important for our children. Besides teaching we also have project which you can share with us such as food, clean water, housing, education, healthcare, electricity, sanitation etc.
TO VOLUNTEERING WITH US
Sok Cambodia Orphanage (SCO) was established on 07 December 2007 (previously known as SCOA formed in 2006). The SCO is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established to assist children in receiving their basic rights for food, shelter, protection and education. At SCO we believe every life has equal value and each person is worthy of the chance of having a better way of life. As one who received a chance and has succeeded in life because of SCO’s support, I know how valuable chances are.
The purpose of our programs is to give these vulnerable groups the same opportunity as others by contributing our time and effort to support their independence. SCO has been providing 40 children with shelter, sustenance through meals served three times every day, daily supplies such as clothes, shoes, mosquito nets, blankets, mattresses, medical supplies, school supplies, education supplies, rice supplies, and other basic necessities. We have water electricity on site. The SCO children spend three hours every day learning languages.

The purpose of our programs is to give these vulnerable groups the same opportunity as others by contributing our time and effort to support their independence. You will find ways to support our projects through this website under the sponsorship section. You can also donate directly to us under the donate section of the website. We also appreciate the adults who work with us as a volunteer. No salaries are paid, but they are very supportive and wonderful with the children.
They share basic but healthy lifestyle and eat simple but nutritious meals with the children. We have been providing 300 children with shelter and class rooms, and we take care of about 40 children in the orphanage, supplying them with meals, daily supplies such as clothes, shoes, mosquito nets, blankets, beds, medical supplies, school and educational supplies, rice and other basic things for giving the poor children. We have water and electricity on the site at our school. We especially need electricity more stable to keep maintaining this website. The children spend many our hours every day for learning languages. Thanks to all the friends and their families around the world which supported us.
